Number of fields in a Word 2010 mail merge using a Word table

I noted with interest your article on the maximum number of fields that can be used in a mail merge using various data sources.  I seem to recall that Word 2010 has a limitation on the number of fields it can use in a mail merge but I cannot recall what
that number is.  I seem to have 32 in my mind.
Is this correct?  If not, please put me out of my misery and let me know the correct answer.

Many thanks
Heather

Anwsers to the Problem Number of fields in a Word 2010 mail merge using a Word table

The maximum number of merge fields is dictated by the data source.  If the data source is a Word table, the maximum number of columns is 63.  However, such a data source would be unworkable as the maximum width of each column would be about 1/3 of an inch
and you would be much better off using and Excel Workbook as the data source as you are then not limited by column width and can have up to 16,384 columns.
